President’s Message
What if I told you Alabama not only wants you but needs you?
My name is Karl Sodergren, current President of Bama Chattanooga and 1988 Graduate of The University of Alabama.
However, you need not be alumni to join our ranks and participate in furthering our cause of promoting awareness and providing scholarships to UA students from our area. The University of Alabama National Alumni Association along with the nationwide chapter affiliates is one of the most active of its kind in the country. Each year through various activities Bama Chattanooga adds to our scholarship endowment and we have fun while doing it.
Volunteers are needed for the following activities and more:
Perhaps you’ve heard of or even played in our annual golf tournament? It sells out every year and requires volunteers. It’s a fun day. I don’t golf but always look forward to this day of volunteering.
We host an annual spring dinner which usually involves a legend from the Alabama sports world as our speaker.
Come help organize and host football watch parties and even some basketball games. Or just show up to cheer with other Bama fans because you were going to watch the game anyway.
Come help every other year on the 3rd Friday of October as we host the Million Dollar Band at Finely Stadium as they stop on their way to Knoxville for the next day’s game. This event is open to the public for free. The band appreciates a field to practice on and delights the crowd. Imagine handing out lunch and canned drinks to some 500+ hungry band members after their performance. In addition, we need members arriving early to fill goodie bags of snacks and handing out those bags as they head back to one of eight buses. The students/band members are always so appreciative. If you don’t have time to volunteer but want to come watch the show we have a VIP section on the 50 yard line for current Bama Chattanooga members.
