President’s Message

Greetings,

Thank you for “dropping by” for a virtual visit to the Chattanooga Chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association.  I am certain many of you, just like me, love all things Bama.  I think there are few places that can match a walk down tree lined University Boulevard in the heart of campus.  Tailgating on the Quad for gameday has no peer.  Standing among the throng of people lined along the “Walk of Champions” as the players and coaches enter Bryant-Denny Stadium brings smiles and chills to young and old alike.  Don’t you just love hearing the band play “Yea Alabama,” and thousands singing “Rammer Jammer,” announcing to the world that Bama just won another game.  Crimson Tide athletes not only compete at a high level in sports, but their academic achievements are equally impressive.  The graduation rate of the football team is annually ranked among the top three in the nation.

Indeed, all the University of Alabama athletic teams bring delight and pride to all Alabama fans, and I assure you there is no more avid fan than me.  At the same time, I want all of us to be as proud of all that the University of Alabama represents.  For the 2023-2024 academic year more than 40,000 students will be enrolled at Alabama.  More than 60,000 applications for admission were received this year.  More than 8,000 Freshmen will enter this year.  The National Alumni Association, made up of 105 chapters, has 738 endowed scholarships with more than $63 million in those funds.  Our Chattanooga chapter has multiple endowed scholarships from which we annually present scholarships to students from the Chattanooga area who are attending the University of Alabama. Furthermore, the facilities on campus are constantly upgrading and expanding.

So, if your love for Bama is like mine, why not join our local chapter of the Alumni Association.  It’s a fun place.  It’s an energizing place.  It’s an opportunity to help expand the University of Alabama brand.  We have tailgate parties, student sendoff parties, gatherings for prospective students and their parents, dinner events, a golf tournament, and so much more…..but above all, we proudly and happily give away money each year to qualifying and deserving Bama bound students.

Again, thanks for “dropping by,” and I hope to see you soon, and ROLL TIDE !

Alan Johnston, President
